WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Miss Wisconsin Rapids Scholarship Organization will soon name its newest Miss Wisconsin Rapids and Miss Wisconsin Rapids’ Teen to represent the area for the next year.
The competition to name both titles will start at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Performing Arts Center, 1801 16th St. S.
Here’s what you need to know before you go.
Where do I get tickets?
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at misswisconsinrapids.org ahead of the competition. Tickets will also be available at the Performing Arts Center the day of the show. Seats are assigned and event organizers encourage people to purchase tickets in advance.
What’s this year’s theme?
The competition’s theme is “She’s Everything – Scholarship, Service, Style, Success,” highlighting the four points of the Miss America Organization and how contestants hold those values in their community.
Who will take the stage?
Miss Wisconsin Rapids 2023 Maria Hartley and Miss Wisconsin Rapids’ Teen 2023 Ruby Marti will crown their successors at the end of the competition. Miss Wisconsin Lila Szyryj and Miss Wisconsin’s Teen Trinity Horstman will also perform at the event.
Eighteen young women will take the stage this year to highlight their community service initiatives, talents and communication skills. Two will continue to represent the area for the next year.
What preparations go into this event?
Contestants for both Miss Wisconsin Rapids and Miss Wisconsin Rapids’ Teen have been preparing for the competition since early September, working through talent practices, mock interviews, on-stage questions and developing their community service initiatives at weekly workshops.
Each contestant has chosen a cause she is passionate about and plans on advocating for and promoting throughout the community as the titleholder.
The two titleholders who will be crowned at the Oct. 28 event will go on to compete at Miss Wisconsin in June. Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin's Teen will then compete at Miss America and Miss America's Teen at the end of the year.
What does the competition look like?
Both Miss Wisconsin Rapids and Miss Wisconsin Rapids’ Teen will compete in five phases: interview, talent, evening gown, health and fitness and an on-stage conversation.
The morning of the competition, each contestant will meet privately with a panel of five judges for a 10-minute interview. That portion of competition is worth 30% of her overall score.
On stage, each contestant will perform a 90-second talent that shows her skills and personality. This portion of competition is worth 20% of her score.
Contestants will also show poise, confidence, beauty, charm and elegance in an evening gown that reflects their personal styles, worth 20% of their scores.
Health and fitness shows each contestant’s commitment to personal health and wellness, also showing her energy, confidence and personality. In this portion of competition, worth 20% of her score, each contestant will wear athletic wear and sneakers and will perform a short fitness routine.
Each contestant will also answer an on-stage question at the competition, counting for 10% of her final score. The on-stage question is designed to show her ability to think quickly and show her personality.
